Windows 8中將新增一個應用程序商店(App Store)的消息已經出現了近一年了，但是微軟從未正面回應過，隨著9月BUILD大會的臨近，微軟終於松口，首次公開證實，Windows 8將內置App Store，微軟Windows部門的App Store開發小組負責該功能的開發。
雖然這並非什麼爆炸性新聞，但是對於關心Windows 8的開發人員和用戶，這無疑是一個好消息。Windows部門總裁Steven Sinofsky在官方博客中列出了Windows 8的多個開發小組名稱，從其名稱中我們也能進一步確定很多Windows 8的功能，列表如下：
